Fundraiser for Velindre Cancer Centre

Steve Andrews along with Nige Locke, Steve Payne and Lee Wickett will be trekking 117 miles non stop from the north coast to the south coast of Devon on Thursday 24 October to raise money for Velinde cancer treatment in Cardiff.

They are raising money in memory of Steve's father Roger who was diagnosed with a grade 4 glioblastoma in August 2020.  The treatment he received at the Velindre Centre extended his life significantly, until he finally lost his battle with cancer in May 2023.

We are hoping to run local events in the village hall on every 3rd Friday of the month.  The latest Friday events will appear below.

Rupert Kirkwood - The Lone Kayaker
Friday 22 November 2024, 7:00pm-10:30pm
Adults £3, accompanied u18s free
Tickets available on the door, or in advance below.

Rupert Kirkwood worked as a farm vet in West Devon for thirty-three years but had to take early retirement due to injury.  He now spends as much time as possible paddling his kayak around the coast of South West England, observing and photographing the exceptional wildlife.  He has kayaked every inch of the coast of SW England, from Poole to Minehead, all 1156 miles of it.  Also 2,000 miles in Scotland, and short jaunts in Spain, USA, Mexico, Greenland, Chile and Antarctica.

Rupert has clocked up 31,000 miles so far, most of it in Devon and Cornwall, cherry-picking his favourite bits.  That's more than the circumference of the planet!  For the last five years, he had paddled far offshore, when sea conditions allow in search of whales.
